About Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton
Welcome to Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Hazleton website.
Effective Jan. 1, 2014, Greater Hazleton Health Alliance became Lehigh Valley Health Network, and Hazleton General Hospital became Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton.
Hazleton General Hospital was founded in 1891 to provide medical care to the coal miners of this region. For many years, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania owned our hospital. Hazleton General Hospital became a not-for-profit community hospital in September 1986. Ten years later, Hazleton General Hospital and Hazleton-Saint Joseph Medical Center joined to form the Greater Hazleton Health Alliance to bring the region the highest quality healthcare and the latest available technology, without duplicating services, equipment and costs.
The effort, care and commitment of our physicians, nurses and caregivers have allowed us to improve the quality of care we deliver and to receive national recognition in heart, stroke, coronary care, pulmonary care and patient safety.
At the same time, we’ve developed clinical partnerships with LVHN in heart attack care and emergency medicine. And in telehealth we literally bring LVHN’s specialists to our patients’ bedside through TeleInfectious Disease, TeleBurn and Tele Stroke.
Our merger with LVHN in 2014 will allow us to move medicine forward and provide nationally respected health care right here in Hazleton. It will allow us to bring to the Greater Hazleton community the type of specialty care, physicians, services and programs available at large health care institutions, so people don’t need to travel outside of our area to get the care they need.
Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton has been awarded accreditation from the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), an independent, accreditation organization recognized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). It earned this distinction after HFAP conducted an extensive and objective review of the (hospital, lab, ambulatory physical therapy, etc)’s quality and safety standards.
Both organizations share similar cultures and not-for-profit missions, and now we share the same passion for better medicine.
We serve more than 100,000 people throughout the Greater Hazleton area. In this region we have more than 100 highly trained and well-respected physicians in a wide variety of specialties. We are well equipped and dedicated to providing our patients with emergency, diagnostic and therapeutic medical services.
As LVHN, we are poised to move forward with high-quality health care in the Greater Hazleton area to better serve our community now and well into the future.
